Last week’s cake was for a baby shower. I got to make a lovely little Miffy with pretty pastel bunting ❤ So cute!

It’s a classic victoria sponge cake with raspberry jam and buttercream. Then I’ve covered it with ready-to-roll white fondant, making the bunting and Miffy out of the leftover cut offs. To finish I piped “Baby Girl” in pink. I think I’d forgotten how much I enjoy baking because I haven’t managed to do many cakes this year due to art work and the occasional essay. I like this cake, it’s very sweet ❤

Since being asked to make a Miffy cake, I did some research to learn more about her. Mainly because people get her confused with Sanrio’s ‘Hello Kitty’ (who I love btw) and I found myself in meaningless discussions about who was better Miffy or Hello Kitty? As it turns out Miffy was created first in 1955 by Dick Bruna which makes her 60 this year! Hello Kitty (Kitty White) first appeared in 1974 on a purse, created by Yuko Shimizu. However Bruna did not like his -now famous- line drawn bunny being pushed out by a copy kitty; even though the characters have a different target market, Miffy is aimed at 4 – 8 year olds and Hello Kitty for ‘preadolescent’ girls (10 – 13). Both are huge house hould names, with their own merchindise and fan clubs, even mini tv series etc… So I’ll leave it up to you to answer the question. Miffy or Kitty?

xox Much love Holly xox

P.S. I still prefer Hello Kitty!
