Spiderman face

This week I’m showing an old favourite that I never seemed to post on the blog. This is my second Spiderman cake that I made 1.5 years ago!!! :O CRAZY. This was for one of my friends 18th, thankfully she loved it!

My Instructions are very brief so if this is the first cake you’ve iced, I’d recommend to try different recipe, (A better one)

To make this you will need the following (rough measurements)

  • A large rectangle sponge cake
  • A sharp knife
  • A spoon
  • Buttercream (soft)
  • Jam
  • Red roll out icing (enough to cover cake)
  • Tinfoil
  • Black piping icing – just water and icing sugar

Slice cake in half and fill with buttercream and jam. Now carve out an oval face shape. Then lightly cover the rest of the cake with buttercream and CHILL in the fridge – so when you start carving the face details the top layer won’t slide around. Using the spoon, knife and your hands, shape the face with buttercream and cake crumbs (like the way you would a cake pop).

At this stage the cake will look freaky as! But it’s okay because we’re going to roll out the red icing and cover the cake, smoothing it out from the bottom upwards – yes I know, from the bottom? It works, trust me. Also sorry for the blurry image these are from my old iPhone 4s

Once the red icing is all smooth, and the excess icing has been trimmed; place the tinfoil eyes on with a little dab of water to secure. Then pipe on the black web, outlining the eyes. All done! Ready to sing “Happy Birthday” and eat 🙂

I just love the way it’s like his face coming out of the cake, it half cool half creepy. Aha! Have you ever made a sculpture cake? Or a super hero one? If not have a go, it’s good fun. I’d love to see what you make 🙂
